The California coastline along Pacific Highway 1 is beautiful, and we decided to eat breakfast at a little vista along the way.
Next we stopped at a state park an hour or two south of Big Sur that led to a cliff which descended to an awesome beach full of caves, boulders, and cool creatures.
It was too cold to swim, but we really wanted to!
Saw many of these jellyfish out on the sand
These sea caves were outstanding, and kind of creepy...
This cave actually went really far; we couldn't see where it ended.
This crab had a staring contest with G
Interesting succulents
We kept going and after a while we found a beach full of elephant seals! There were tons of people checking these guys out, and the tourists were kept away by fences and parks officials. Apparently these particular seals are all males, and they are molting (shedding the outer layer of fur) There was a bit of fighting going on between rival alpha males, but mostly a lot of sleeping and snorting. They made bizarre noises...
"It's been a long day of swimming..."
They do bear a resemblance to the elephant, don't they?
These two zonked out side by side
One of many fights that happened. They would bite each other and snort, but the fights usually didn't last long.
Another fight
Victorious!
Cute baby seal, or maybe a female or different species? It was the only one that didn't have the big elephant style trunk for a snout.
Soon after we left the seals, we found Zebras. I have no idea how they got there... but it was awesome seeing Zebras!
Birds like to hang out on the Zebra's backs
After more driving we stopped in Cayucos, CA, a beautiful spot to enjoy the beach and go swimming. We played in the waves and bodysurfed for about 3 hours. Then it was time to get to LA...
Finally around 10pm we arrived in West Hollywood, Los Angeles to meet up with our friends Jordan and Kristina. Below is the Sunset Strip.
After all the driving, hiking, hot weather, nature, isolation from other humans, it was great to get to a city for a while!
