Sorry for the delay folks, we've been in Iowa and didn't have internet for long enough to work on the blog, so we're playing catch up today...
Day 20 we visited Canyonlands National Park, and it was epic! We've never seen such big, beautiful canyons in our lives! We only got to spend a little while there, but it made a huge impression. Further evidence that we absolutely need to come back to Utah for an extended visit in the future.
Extraordinary views of canyons that went for miles and miles
It was very hot but we weren't noticing the heat because of the majestic view
The Mesa Arch was wonderful! You can look through to the canyon below, and it's a sheer drop of about a mile. Wish we could have seen the sun rise through it.
Looking through the Mesa Arch
We found a tiny newt in our camper when we got back in the van. We think he got in around Capitol Reef, but it could've been as far back as Big Sur... We decided if we left him in Canyonlands he would've died because it was so dry and high up with no bugs, so we brought him down by the Colorado River with water, tons of plants and bugs, shade and sun. Hope he's doing well!!!
Grace named him Peter. He walked right into her hands and was sleepy. When we dropped him off at his new home he was a little weary of leaving her hand, but when he finally did he really perked up! He was running around checking stuff out and Grace saw him eat a little bug.
Beautiful drive the park
Canyons all the way...
Unbelievable
I wish we could have spent more time at Canyonlands, there is a ton to see. We will definitely be back there. I'd like to see it in the morning and the evening next time. It is a little out of the way and you drive up pretty high, but then you don't have to deal with a tone of tourists, so for me it couldn't have been any better!
