Days Two and Three

The next morning we woke up in Wheeler, OR and made pancakes in a parking lot by a lake. We saw 8 or 9 deer or elk-like animals eating grass across the way. It was a great way to start the day! Later the historic Wheeler train came by.

                                                  Can anyone identify these?

After that we headed to Manhattan Beach for a break from driving, and it was beautiful and relaxing. Grace painted a couple mini watercolors using beach sand, shells, and seawater, and I did some composing.

Grace made herself a sand beard...

The black was from charred fire wood, the sand is real, and the water from the ocean!

                                                            I love this painting

After lunch we decided to go to a camp ground. We tried Cape Lookout State Park but it was full. We stopped by a campground catered toward ATV guys, but I said "No Way" when I saw shirtless tattooed men drinking beer and really loud ATVs... So we kept going until we found the paradise known as "Whalen Island". I knew I found the right spot when I saw the sign that said "Quiet Hours: 10pm to 7am". ;) This place was a great place to camp, and had some amazing trails and a huge beach that extended forever. It becomes an island when the ocean fills in the sand that surrounds it. We decided to there for two days to get a break from driving.

Our little camper with the bed made
                                                    The Beach drained of water...
                                                        Filling with water....
                                                    Almost Full!!
                                                            Very squishy sand

                                                          "OK, last picture..."
